Welcome to S.A.M.Y.’s Alpaca Farm and Fibre Studio. We are a family business located north of Strathroy in South Western Ontario, Canada. We started our farm in 2004 with 8 alpacas. Now we care for 40 alpacas, 4 llamas, 4 goats, and one Icelandic sheep.
We enjoy spending time with these beautiful gentle animals and decided to share our experience and open up our farm to the public. We offer farm visits (alpaca walks) and farm stays (Airbnb). All visits are private, just the group/family that books the experience and by appointment. It is a unique experience with lots of alpaca quality time. Please, click on the page taps for more information and online booking.
Alpacas have to be sheared once a year for their health and well-being. “Spa day” is in May!” We give them their annual haircut, trim their toenails and vaccinate against parasites. This way they are nice and cool for the summer and by the time November comes around they grew lots of fibre (hair) back and are warm and cozy for the winter.
We send their warm and soft fibre out to a fibre mill and receive yarns, rovings, felts and batts back. We create lots of different alpaca products right here at the farm and offer them for sale in our Farm Store. In a way besides being wonderful, funny, curious, gentle, and shy beings – they help to pay for their own upkeep.
We are happy to share the skills we learned and practiced by creating our own products with everybody in our Workshops. Learn how to knit, needle felt, or wet felt in a small group here on the farm or online via zoom.
